MATE Session Manager Looking For A Dock
I dislike miscellaneous error messages, especially uninformative messages. For some time I noticed such a message in the .xsession-errors
log as well as /var/log/syslog
.
mate-session[3734]: WARNING: Unable to find provider '' of required component 'dock'
There is no convenient pointy-clicky way to stop the messages. The solution is to open dconf-editor
and edit the following key:
org/mate/desktop/session/required-components-list
Remove the requirement for dock
.
I am using MATE 1.12. For those folks using a distro where some kind of dock is provided, such as Ubuntu MATE, the error message will not appear. Possibly this bug has been resolved in subsequent releases.
